Personal details.

Full name (s): My name is Elemia Ridgeley & is known and mostly goes by the name of Miena at home. Most of my friends call me Mienaj (or as in Minaj-a nick name).

I was born in Schmidtsdrift on the 21st of September 1991, where our SAN communities used to live in tents, after struggling from apartheid time,& had to move to South Africa. I’m the firstborn of my parents, out of 5 children.

Education: I started school in 1997 in our local hometown Schmidtsdrift, which was then named-Schmidtsdrift SAN Combine School. And I also matriculated in the same school in 2009 then name-changed to !Xunkhwesa Combine School. After my completion of Grade 12, I couldn’t go to any further studies, because of the financial problem at home. I had to take a gap year, just being at home, but also in the mean time looking for job opportunities.

Work experience (s): In 2011 I started joining trainings & volunteering in the youth active programme LoveLife, as a groundBREAKER) peer-educator). My job was to get involved in the community; to implement in schools, clinic & in the community motivating youth about life-issues.

During the same year I joined the SABC CURRENT NEWS AFFAIRS during the election. Although it was just for only 2 weeks broadcasting news on air, I’ve learned a lot about the broadcasting industry. It was really an honour for me to be on air and I really enjoyed it.

At year-end I graduated as a Motivator, Facilitator, groundBREAKER which I still hold the certificate for participating.

In 2012- I started working at the SABC radio X-K fm, as a freelance presenter on air for kids’ programmes—let’s learn & let’s play together.

Short after that I presented various programmes include the Women’s programme up until the Youth programme, which is my current show. The youth programme about challenges youth faces in life & how to overcome them.

After 5 years of broadcasting I’ve learned quite a lot and improved my communication skills and voice on the radio.

And I’m also looking forward to learn more experience in the broadcasting industry.
