SAPS AND STAKEHOLDERS COLLABORATE TO RAISE GBVF AWARENESS
Kimberley, Tuesday, 27 October 2026: The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Northern Cape, in collaboration with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC) in Galeshewe and Sonke Gender Justice, participated in a radio awareness programme on XK FM in Platfontein, Kimberley, on Tuesday, 27 October 2026 to raise awareness among the Khwe and !Xun communities about the scourge of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).
The initiative was spearheaded by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) to educate communities about the devastating impact of GBVF on individuals, families and communities, while encouraging collective efforts to address this societal challenge.
During the programme, representatives from the participating organisations were afforded an opportunity to explain their respective roles in addressing GBVF and to provide listeners with valuable information on the available support services and processes for victims and survivors.
The SAPS was represented by Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Litabe from Provincial Corporate Communication and Liaison in the Northern Cape and Captain Tanya Serfontein from the Galeshewe Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. Both officers provided comprehensive explanations of the procedures involved in reporting and registering GBVF-related cases, as well as the subsequent investigative processes leading to the handover of case dockets to the NPA for a decision on prosecution.
Listeners were encouraged to break the silence surrounding GBVF and to report incidents to the police.
